What did we do?
We were discriminated.
But why?
We were given a yellow star.
Our heads were shaved.
But why?
They occupied our town.
We were put in ghettos.
But why?
We could never get food.
So finish your plate.
But why?
We were torn in half by our legs.
They killed our infants.
But why?
We were tortured.
We were put in gas chambers.
But why?
But why?
Because we are Jewish.
I chose torture and discrimination as my themes for the poem because those were essentially the whole reason of the genocide. The Jews as pointed out in order before they were completely killed off it seemed they didn’t have much to worry about from just the yellow stars but as time went on it got progressively worse. InHungarythe people weren’t as afraid of the Nazis until they realized what was going to happen. They were killing infants and killing mass amounts of Jews by forcing them all into gas chambers which ended up resulting in the 6-million deaths during the holocaust. All of this torture was just completely taken way to far just from them being discriminated against. The concentration camps are just a horrific idea to think that people had to go through just from a religion that they practiced and as quoted from many survivors “its an awful thing”.
